Name: West Bromwich Albion | no sponsor match worn away shirt | 1982 – 1983

Item Number: #3

Description: This shirt belonged to one of West Bromwich Albion’s greatest players, John Wile. A stalwart of the club, Wile made a total of 619 senior appearances and scored 24 goals during his time at West Brom. He became captain in the 1981-1982 season and led the team until his departure in 1983. Martin Jol remembers him as tough, never giving up, a leader of the pack — embodying all the best characteristics of a true leader. Martin received this shirt from the club’s kit manager after one of their away games. In recognition of his remarkable contributions, Wile was named one of West Bromwich Albion’s 16 greatest players in 2004, in a poll organized for the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations.

This shirt is unique because it lacks a sponsor on the front. This design was specifically made for televised games, as sponsors were not permitted to appear on shirts during broadcasts
